Why is the rubber of the lens covers and/or of the rubber cover greyish?

To reach maximum protection level for all weather conditions, wax is added into the rubber mixture.

The wax will slowly migrate to the surface of the part. During frequent use, this wax will be used up completely and not noticed by the user. For long time storage, the wax will not be used up as frequently and will be seen as a grey film on the surface.

To restore to its original condition, please hand wash in warm dishwater.

What is the difference between the different CompM models?

The principle is the same in all Aimpoint® CompML and CompM sights. You always look with both eyes open, there is no eye relief to take into consideration and they are parallax free.
The CompM is the first generation of CompM sights, the CompM4 is the fourth generation. The CompM2 and M3 are still in use.
The CompML models are not compatible with NVD (night vision devices).
The CompM models are compatible with all generation of NVDs.
The first, second and third generation of CompM sights are mounted with one mounting ring for either weaver or Picatinny rails, and they use one DL 1/3N battery.
The CompM4 sights have a patented integrated mount for Picatinny rail in the housing and don’t require an extra mounting ring, and they use a AA battery.

The principle of the sights is the same for all models. No magnification, aim with both eyes open, no specific eye relief to take into consideration. My objective lens is a little bit inclined!

This is not a broken sight! The front lens is a little bit inclined due to the fact the diode is not located in the centre of the sight but it might be located either in the roof part or the lower part of the sight depending on the model. The lens and the diode are in line with one and other.

The dot in my Aimpoint sight doesn't look round. Is it defective?

If your dot does not appear to be perfectly round, the distortion is probably caused by the way that your eye perceives the dot, rather than by some mechanical defect. Due to differences in the lenses in different individuals' eyes, round objects that subtend areas near 3 minutes of angle may appear distorted in a variety of ways depending on the individual and other environmental influences. Inexpensive red dot sights sometimes have manufacturing defects that can cause the dot to be an odd shape.

A simple test that can be easily performed will allow you to determine the cause of the apparent distortion:

  • Turn the sight on and look through as you normally would. (This test is easiest when the sight is not mounted on a firearm, but can be performed with the sight mounted as well. Just make sure that the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction.)
  • While continuing to look through the sight, roll the sight on its optical axis.
  • If the dot's irregularities seem to revolve around the center of the dot like the spokes of a wheel, there is a mechanical defect causing the distortion.
  • If the dot does not roll with the sight, the distortion is caused in the way your eye perceives the dot. This is not to say that you don't have good vision. You can see clearly and still see a distortion in objects this small.

This effect is less pronounced in sights with larger dots. More people will see the dot in a sight with a 10 minute-of-angle dot as being perfectly round than will be able to see a 3 MOA dot as round.

What do I need to mount one of your sights on my firearm?

Aimpoint® sights can be mounted on virtually any firearm. For the models which don't have en incorporated mount, you will need 1 or 2 rings to perform the mounting on the weapon. The rings have a diameter of 30mm or 34 mm. We recommend a gunsmith to mount the sight on the weapon if the weapon does not already carry a Weaver or Picatinny rail.

If the rail is not mounted properly, you will encounter zeroing problems. Please check the following page for further information about the subject: Get most of your Aimpoint® sight

To what distance can the dot be seen?

The dot is not projected on to the target. It is only seen inside the sight, so the distance to the target does not limit dot visibility.

Does a red dot sight and a laser work the same way?

In a red dot sight, the dot is not projected on to the target, it is only seen inside the sight and only by the shooter. Lasers project the reticule on to the target which makes the dot visible on the target. The red dot sight uses a LED (light emitting diode) which is completely safe for the eyes comparted to a laser that create a reticle with a laser emission, which can be harmful to your eyes.

How big is the dot at 100 meters?

Aimpoint® series sights feature either a 4 MOA dot or a 2 MOA dot.

MOA stands for "minutes of angle" and 1 MOA = 1"at 100 yards = 3 cm at 100 meters

If you have a 4 MOA, this means that the dot is about 12 cm at 100 m (4" at 100 yards), 6 cm at 50 m and 3 cm at 25m.

If you have a 2 MOA dot, this means that the dot is about 6 cm at 100m (2" at 100 yards), 3 cm at 50m and 1.5 cm at 25m
