With the right gunsmith, your Aimpoint sight can be fitted to almost any firearm. Brian Pedersen specializes in tackling the trickiest mounting challenges – and does so with precision and flair.
– The goal is to keep it low. High mounts look really ugly, he says.
For over a decade, the Danish gunsmith has been running his business outside Katrineholm, earning a reputation that spans the country. Customers seek him out for personalized modifications, such as shortening barrels for silencers or installing recoil pads.
– I noticed the setup was becoming increasingly popular. Some chose to attach the sight using only the rear claw mount. I couldn’t make it work – it was practically impossible to do it well. So, I got myself a CNC milling machine to solve the problem and became a bit obsessed, says Brian.
The challenge lies in the fact that almost all claw mounts are unique. Measurements vary, and every rifle requires individual customization – but it can be done.
– In that setup, the sight can be mounted directly onto the rib. You can barely achieve a lower mount, notes Pedersen.
Looking ahead, Brian Pedersen is eager to continue developing smart and sleek solutions for both new and classic firearms. And if he encounters something beyond his expertise, he’s quick to recommend a colleague.
– Every specialist should stick to what they do best, he concludes.
Claw Mounts
Claw mounts are a type of attachment used to mount optics, such as scopes, onto firearms. They consist of small hooks or bases that fit into corresponding grooves or recesses on the weapon. This type of mount is particularly common on older and more traditional hunting firearms, such as drillings and double rifles.
The advantage of claw mounts is their robustness and precision. They are often designed to ensure that the sight returns to the exact same position if detached and reattached. However, this technique typically requires the expertise of a gunsmith to install and adjust correctly, as each firearm and mount may have unique measurements and requirements.
